If you are or are thinking about becoming sexually active regular HIV and STD testing are parts of safer sex practices. You may obtain tests for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) on campus at the Student Health Center.

HIV and STD Testing Options On Campus

  1. Student Health Services* offers confidential HIV and STD testing and consultation during normal business hours .  Some tests require samples of body fluids (urine or vaginal secretions), and others require a simple blood test.  If you receive STD/HIV testing at the Student Health Center, you will need to pay a minimal fee, and the test will be included in your medical record.  Your provider will discuss the cost of each test, but you should also check with your health insurance carrier to find out which tests your policy covers.
  2. You may also test for free with an STD Counselor from Wake County Human Services*(WCHS) available the first and third Wednesdays each month in the afternoon. There will be no testing during breaks. Clinics for the 2014-15 academic year will begin August 21, 2014.  WCHS does not provide herpes or human papillomavirus (HPV) testing.
*Appointments may only be scheduled beginning Monday of each week that testing is available.
  3. The GLBT Center on campus offers confidential testing the last Friday of each month from 12 – 2 p.m. in collaboration with the Wake County Health Department

*To make an appointment for HIV or other STD testing, call 919-515-2563, select option 2. The appointment coordinator can discuss testing options with you. If you do not want to say that HIV/STD testing is the reason for your appointment, you can say you have a personal issue.
